Originally a small fishing and smuggling village, one of the UK’s only seaside resorts with royal consent for its regal suffix, Bognor Regis was developed in the late 1800s along the then undeveloped West Sussex coast. Rapid growth was assured by the arrival of the railway connecting it with London some 70 miles away. Just under 6 miles south-east of Chichester, Bognor Regis includes the villages of Felpham and Aldwick as well as North and South Bersted.
Bognor Regis Location and Transport
Bognor Regis has excellent transport links with half hourly rail services to London via Barnham taking about 1 hour 40 minutes and direct services to other south coast towns like Littlehampton. The road links provide easy access to the A29 connecting with the A24 to Horsham and London as well as the A27 east-west coastal road.
Attractions in the area
As well as being the oldest seaside resort in England, Bognor Regis has a large pedestrianised town centre with many high street chains represented and the famous holiday resort of Butlin’s west of the town attracting thousands of visitors every summer. Popular with young and old, families and young professionals, Bognor’s housing really does cater for all tastes with a variety of flats, Victorian terraces, modern apartments, and large detached houses in nearby Felpham and Aldwick. There are two senior schools and a number of primary schools.
