Living in Westergate
The pretty village of Westergate, along with its sister village of Eastergate, is one of the "six villages" situated to the east of Chichester and just to the south of Fontwell, well known for its racecourse.
The area is richly fertile and is renowned for its market gardening, greenhouses and salad production. With easy access to the A27 the village is well positioned for commuting to Portsmouth and Southampton to the west, Brighton and Hove to the east, and with Barnham train station just down the road offering direct rail access to London Victoria and Gatwick airport this is an ideal location for a working family.
Schools are well catered for here as well. Just to the south of the village is Aldingbourne Primary School, next door in Eastergate is the CE Primary school, and pretty much mid- way between the two sits the secondary school The Six Villages Academy.
Leisure wise you are spoilt for choice in this village. On your doorstep, you'll find the Westergate Recreational Ground as well as the Six Villages Sports Centre, which is part of the local Academy. The South Downs National Park just to the north is rightly famous for its natural beauty and is the perfect spot for walking and biking. The coast with all its opportunities for sailing or just lazing around on the beach is only a few minutes' drive away.
Attractions in the area
If you fancy something a bit more historical then the beautiful town of Arundel is just down the road. This fairy tale castle is home to the Duke and Duchess of Norfolk and dates back to 1067. The town also boasts the beautiful Cathedral Church of Our Lady and St Philip Howard and serves now as the seat of the Bishop of Arundel and Brighton. This picturesque town has many quaint shops and restaurants and with the Wetlands Centre to catch up on your bird spotting it's a great place to while away a day.
If it's convenience in a petty rural location that you're looking for you'll be hard pushed to do better than this West Sussex village.
